Breastfed babies have a higher IQ than those bottle fed according to Norwegian and Danish researchers. They studied 345 children between 13 months and five years old and studied how long they were breastfed.
Dr Torstein Vik, of the Department of Community Medicine at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology at Trondheim, said: “Our data suggest that a longer duration of breast feeding benefits cognitive development. It is possible that it was the intimacy of breast feeding that was important for infant development as well as the contents of human milk, which contains many nutrients vital to development.”
As result it showed that breastfeeding for less than three months after birth may affect a child’s intelligence. Even taking into account the mother’s age, intelligence and education and whether or not she smoked, they found the differences persisted. So start brestfeeding to get more intelligent babies.
